Bio

Matthew Erzar will enter his 5th year at Century College. In the four season as head coach, the Wood Ducks were 146-60, NJCAA World Series National Runner up (2025), North Plains District Champion, North Plains District Runner-up,  four regional appearances,  MCAC South Division Champion, 2 time NJCAA All-Academic Team, and  2 time ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award. On the individual side he has 45 All-Division, 21 All-Region, 70 All-MCAC Academic, 26 All-Academic NJCAA, seven All-Americans, three Gold Glove award Winner, three Region XIII Player of Year, a NJCAA National Player of the year and 47 student-athletes moved on to 4 year programs. 

Before Century, Matthew was a head coach at Dakota County Technical College and Mesabi Range College. At DCTC, he held the helm for five years. Erzar had a record of 101-96 (.512) in 5 seasons in the dugout for the Blue Knights including a 61-37 (.622) tally the last 3 seasons. He has led the baseball team to one Region XIII DII Championship (2018) and two Runners-up (2017 & 2019). Erzar was named region coach of the year in 2018 and led the 2019 team to the school record for wins in a season with 33. Matthew left the DCTC with the most career wins and was the longest tenured coach of the Blue Knights. He has coached an impressive 13 NJCAA Academic All-Americans while at Dakota County Technical College. Coach Erzar has helped place many of his sophomores at the DI, DII, DIII, and NAIA levels in his five years. At Mesabi Range College, where he was the head coach of the Norsemen for three years. Erzar has led his teams to region tournaments, as well as coached an All-American, two Gold Glove Award Winners, and three All-State players. He also had a baseball player sign a professional contract. 

Prior to his time being a head coach, Erzar served as an assistant baseball coach at Mesabi Range College from 2011-13; Concordia College in 2010; University of Minnesota, Crookston from 2008-2009; and North Dakota State University in 2007. At Mesabi Range College and UMC, Erzar was the top assistant and the pitching coach, and also designed and ran the strength and conditioning program. As an assistant at Concordia College, he coached catchers and infielders. At NDSU, he served as a volunteer graduate assistant coach.

During the summers, Erzar worked at many levels of baseball. His most recent summer college coaching stint was with the Mohawk Valley (NY) Diamond Dawgs of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. In 2010, he coached at the professional level with the Northern League Champions, Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. With the RedHawks, Erzar coached first base and worked with the bullpen. He also coached for two years in the Northwoods League, a collegiate summer league, with the Battle Creek (MI) Bombers and Thunder Bay (ON) Border Cats where he served as the pitching coach. Erzar has also coached the Fargo (ND) Post 2 Legion team and many youth teams in the Grand Rapids (MN) area.

Matthew also continues his education of baseball and it technology. He has be an American Baseball Coaches Association member for over 15 years. He is also has is certifications from Driveline Baseball (Foundations of Pitching & Foundations of Hitting) and Rapsodo (Rapsodo Baseball Hitting & Rapsodo Baseball Pitching)

A native of Grand Rapids, MN, Erzar attended college and played baseball at North Dakota State University (NDSU). As a Bison, Erzar was a four-year letter winner as a pitcher and helped win a North Central Conference title in 2004. Erzar graduated from NDSU with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 2005 and a Master's Degree in Health, Nutrition, and Exercise Science in 2007. He resides in North Branch, MN with his wife Jillian, daughter Eleanor and son Nolan.
