2022-23 Volleyball Season Preview
The 2022-23 Volleyball Season is underway, and the Wood Ducks are hard at work for the upcoming season. The team is led by second year players Emma Crandell (all MCAC), Mackay Williams (MCAC 2nd Team Southern Division), Kailey Mroszak (2021 team kills leader), Addy Mueller, and transfer Simone Mortel (SCTC). Cassidy Gilliam (Setter, Woodbury, MN), Autumn Allen (OPP, Chatfield, MN), Gabrielle Schwirtz (Setter, Plato, MN), Kiyomi Callahan (OH, St Paul, MN), Sydney Withrow (OPP, Winona, MN), Trinity McComas (OH, Salmon, ID), and Jamie Ihfe (OPP, Forest Lake, MN) make up the incoming freshmen class. The team hopes to carry on where they left off last year after a fourth-place finish in the MCAC Southern Division and a Region XIII berth.
"As we enter our 2nd season in the MCAC, I am pretty excited for the season" says coach Jay Kam. "We have a great group of athletes this season and I am thankful they chose to continue their education here at Century while playing volleyball for us. I am also grateful for the athletes from the previous two season as they are part of what we are building."
The volleyball team starts play Friday, August 26, and Saturday, August 27, at a tournament hosted by the College of DuPage in Illinois. "Without the support of local businesses, family, and friends, we wouldn't be able to attend this tournament," stated Head Coach Jay Kam. "It's great to have the support and we are very appreciative."
After the team returns from Chicago, the MCAC season begins on Wednesday, August 31, at 630pm with a home match against St Cloud Technical College. Coach Kam is hoping for a great turnout at home matches this season. "There isn't a charge for admission to our home matches, so I hope the community will come out and support the team," stated Coach Kam.
Also new to the coaching staff this season is Nikki Higley. Coach Higley has over 10 years of coaching experience, and played 4 years of Diviison 1 volleyball at Penn State.
