Volleyball Co-Champions of MCAC Southern Division!
The Century College women's volleyball team finished their regular season play Saturday, October 22, with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-22) win against Minnesota West. The win completes a regular season where the Wood Ducks finished with an overall record of 21-5. In MCAC Southern Division play, they finished 14-2 which makes them co-champions with MN State-Fergus Falls who also finished with a division record of 14-2. Since Century holds the tie breaker, the Region 13A tournament will be hosted at Century College Friday, October 28, and Saturday, October 29. "It's been a long season and bodies are starting to feel the grind, stated Head Coach Jay Kam. "26 matches in two and a half months is a lot of volleyball. We are fortunate to have won the tie breaker as we can sleep in our own beds and stay with our routine. Having the home crowd will also give us an added boost!"
#1 seed Century College will take on #4 seed Central Lake, at 6pm on Friday. The #2 seed, MN North - Itasca, will take on #3 seed Rochester Technical and Community College at 8pm. The winners will advance to play at noon on Saturday for the Region 13A Championship and a berth at the NJCAA DIII National Volleyball Tournament.
Jay Kam added: "These are special student-athletes. They've been working hard all semester and it's great to see their hard work and dedication pay off. I am extremely grateful for their commitment to the team. While they have put in the work, they aren't the only ones who have made this season a successful one. Our sponsors and partners (American Legion Bayport, Raising Cane's, and Kokoro Volleyball), family and friends who have donated, Dwight Kotila our AD who does a lot of the backend work, administrators, faculty and staff who support the students and facilities, and the student body. Without everyone's support, this season wouldn't have been the same so THANK YOU!"
Come and cheer for the Century Wood Ducks on Friday night! Adults will be $10 and $5 for everyone else.
