Ducks move up to #2 in NJCAA Rankings
The Century College Women's Volleyball team moved up to #2 in the latest NJCAA DIII rankings released on August 28 as they ran their season record to 9-1 by going 4-0 at the MCAC Crossover Tournament, August 25-26, hosted by Anoka Ramsey CC. On Friday, August 25, the Wood Ducks defeated Minnesota North College - Mesabi 3-2, and then swept North Iowa CC 3-0. On Saturday, August 26, The Wood Ducks swept both Alexandria Technical College 3-0 and Iowa lakes CC 3-0.
It was another weekend where contributions came from everyone on the team. Freshman Alexis Helmin (Sauk Rapids HS) led the team with 48 kills while hitting .418 to earn herself MCAC offensive player of the week honors. Sophomore Gabrielle Schwirtz (Glencoe - Silver Lake HS) lit up the stats book with 44 digs, 5 block assists, 21 kills, 10 aces, and 74 assists. The digs and blocks got her recognized as the MCAC defensive player of the week. Sophomore Jamie Ihfe (Forest Lake HS) also got in some impressive swings over the weekend finishing with 24 kills.
The Wood Ducks open up MCAC conference play at home Wednesday evening, August 30, vs. Rochester CC. Game time is 6:30pm at the Century College gymnasium.
