Century College Volleyball 2024: A Season to Remember
The 2024 Century College volleyball season was nothing short of extraordinary—a journey filled with passion, grit, and unforgettable moments. The team made it to their third consecutive semi-finals at nationals. As the final whistle blew on the season, the team looked back on their shared experiences.
A Strong Start
From the very first serve, it was clear that this team had something special. With key players, Alexis Helmin, Jalyn Wolle, and Josie Popp, returning for their second season, transfers Ariana Noplos and Gracie Wenger, and 1st year starters Madelyn Robillard and Lilly Wynn, there was hope for a deep run into the playoffs. With each match, confidence grew, and so did the belief that this team could accomplish something great. Many of the athletes received accolades throughout the season both in conference and nationally. The early wins weren't just about points on the scoreboard—they were about proving to themselves and their supporters that they had what it took to compete at the highest level.
Key Players and Standout Performances
Every member of the team played an essential role in making this season a success. Alexis Helmin led the charge offensively, delivering powerful kills that eventually earned her honors as the MCAC south player of the year. Madelyn Robillard and Josie Popp were the backbone of the defense, making sure nothing hit the floor easily. Solid setting by Jalyn Wolle also earned her first team honors. But beyond individual performances, the team goals remained the same.
Challenges and Growth
Of course, the journey wasn't always smooth. Injuries tested the team's depth, and tough losses forced them to regroup and refocus. But through it all, they grew stronger. Every setback became a lesson, every tough practice a step toward improvement. This became apparent after losing in the regional finals RCTC. The Wood Ducks had to wait until the bracket release to find out if they had been selected to the national tournament as an at-large bid. At the national tournament, Century ended up losing in the semifinals to the eventual champions, Dallas Eastfield.
Looking Ahead
As the season wraps up, it's clear that Century College volleyball is going to make another push at nationals. With a talented core of returning players and hungry newcomers ready to step up, the future is bright. The lessons learned in 2024—the triumphs, the struggles, the memories—will serve as fuel for what's to come.
This season wasn't just about wins and losses. It was about the bond between teammates, the love for the game, and the moments that made it all worth it. As the 2nd year players say goodbyes and the next group is coming, one thing is certain—Century College volleyball is built on a culture where we get to celebrate our teammates. If done well, we expect many more great seasons to come.
Fundraising
Our student-athletes have worked hard for during the season and now into the spring. While we get a lot of support from the students at Century, there are a few expenses that aren't covered. This would include our tournaments at the beginning of the season. Other things that are covered by fundraising are player gear, video platform to help athletes get recruited, and spring events such as practices and scrimmages. The Century College Volleyball program has been valuable to many of the athletes and we would like to continue to give them the best experience possible. Please click the link below as April fundraiser. Our goal is $5000 for the month. If you would like to donate more than the levels available, please contact Head Coach Jay Kam. Jay.kam@century.edu.
