Volleyball team ranked #8 in 9/6/22 NJCAA Polls!
The Century women's volleyball team is getting some national attention after a great start (4-1) to their season. The Wood Ducks moved up four spots in the NJCAA III Volleyball Polls and have cracked the top 10 for the first time. The 8th place ranking comes after a narrow victory in five sets over previously #9 ranked St Cloud Technical College last Wednesday. The team was led by 2nd year players Emma Crandell (Forest Lake, MN) with 15 kills, Simone Mortel (Vadnais Heights, MN) with 11 kills and a hitting efficiency of 55%, and Mackay Williams (Salmon, ID) with 28 digs. First year Kiyomi Callahan (St Paul, MN) contributed with 10 kills while first year setters Gabi Schwirtz (Plato, MN) and Cassidy Gilliam (Woodbury, MN) ran the offense with 28 and 12 assists respectively. The Ducks now have beaten (3) top 10 NJCAA III ranked teams this season.
"It's nice to see that other coaches are recognizing the accomplishments of the team so early in the season" says coach Jay Kam. "With so many perennial top 10 programs in our MCAC conference, we had these type of goals when we brought volleyball back to Century. This is a good step for us. Now we must continue to get better and enjoy the process."
